Soil
Soil is made up of broken down bits of rock, plants and other organic matter. It is often classified by its texture and the amount of sand, silt or clay it contains.
The four main types of soil:
LOAM SOIL
- It is biotic.
- It would be found alot in rainforests.
- Considered the best to grow most any type of plant.
SAND SOIL
- Consists of very small particles of rock and minerals.
- Formed by the weathering of rocks, such as granite, quartz and limestone.
- Warms faster than most soils.
SILT SOIL
- It is a very fertile soil.
- Has a smoother texture than sand, and turns a very dark colour when it’s wet.
CLAY SOIL
- Considered the most difficult soil to work with.
- It is very fine grain soil, and contains little air space.
- When it is wet, it can be very difficult to loosen.
